Peter Armitage ( Bill Webster in Coronation Street ) and Gala Queen Katie Brown opened the 43rd Hawes and District Gala on Saturday 26th June 2010. The event took place on Tommys Field by kind permission of Anthony Heseltine. The event began in the High Street where large crowds had gathered to watch the parade. There were many floats and local people in fancy dress, there were vintage cars and tractors plus music from the Hawes Prize Silver Band.
Peter Armitage and Katie Brown welcomed the public with short speeches over the pa system. It was a lovely sunny day and there was a proper carnival atmosphere.
After the parade there was entertainment on the show field including a fancy dress parade, children’s races, Punch and Judy, falconry, a bouncy castle, slippery pole, rodeo bull, ice cream and refreshments plus side stalls too.
The organisers were very pleased with day and are now planning next years gala.
